SKEIKUNDIGE SAMESTELLING VAN VIER ATRIPLEX-SPESIES

Die doel van hierdie ondersoek was om die skeikundige samestelling van Atriplex nummularia, A. canescens, A. brewerii en A. lentiformis tussen spesies en tussen seisoene te vergelyk. Monsters van genoemde Atriplex-spesies is gedurende elk van die vier seisoene van een jaar ingesamel en vir ruproteïen, ruvesel, eter ekstrak, as, natrium, kalsium, kalium, magnesium en fosfor ontleed. Tussen spesies sowel as tussen seisoene bet betekenisvolle (P < 0,05) verskille in skeikundige samestelling voorgekom. Hierdie verskille staan waarskynlik in verband met seisoenale en spesieverskille in voedingswaarde, asook die aanneemlikheid van Atriplex-spesies, vir diere.

CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF FOUR ATRIPLEX SPECIES

The chemical composition of Atriplex nummularia, A. canescens, A. brewerii and A. lentiformis was determined during four consecutive seasons. Significant differences in chemical composition occurred between species and between seasons which might serve as some indication of differences found in acceptability and feeding value. According to the results of this investigation the four Atriplex species used have a theoretically high feeding value and would probably be utilized efficiently by ruminants as a crude protein supplement
