MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION

Lectures are given in both English and Afrikaans. Not all lectures are necessarily repeated in both languages. It is therefor essential that students must be able to follow lectures in both languages. Students are free to use either language during classes while examinations and tests are conducted in both languages.

THE STUDY PROGRAMME

The basic task of this College is to provide in vocational agricultural education to meet the demand for technically trained manpower for the small stock farming sector and related industries.

The formal training programme offered at the College is a three year full-time programme, leading to a Diploma in Agriculture. Provision is made for an exit-level after successful completion of two years of training when a Higher Certificate in Agriculture is awarded.

The general aim of the College training programme is to provide broadly-based training in the principles, techniques and practical skills of animal production and farm management with special emphasis on the specific needs of the small stock farming sector in the extensive sheep farming areas. The fields of study in the instruction programmes include the principles and practices of small stock production, agricultural management, environmental management, crop production, agricultural engineering practices on the farm and agricultural organisation and agricultural extension.

Lesings word in beide Afrikaans en Engels aangebied. Nie al die lesings word noodwendig in die ander taal herhaal nie. Dit is dus noodsaaklik dat studente in staat moet wees om lesings in beide tale te volg. Studente mag enige van die twee tale gebruik in klasse en die toetse en eksamens word in beide tale afgeneem.

DIE STUDIEPROGRAM

Die basiese opdrag van die Kollege is om praktykgerigte opleiding, wat die behoefte vir tegnies opgeleide mannekrag vir die kleinveebedryf en verwante bedrywe sal voorsien, te verseker.

Die formele opleidingsprogram wat die Kollege aanbied is ‘n voltydse driejaar program wat uitloop op ‘n Diploma in Landbou. Voorsiening is gemaak vir ‘n uittreevlak na suksesvolle voltooiing van twee jaar se opleiding waarna ‘n Hoër Sertifikaat in Landbou toegeken word.

Die algemene doel van die Kolleges se opleidingsprogramme is om ‘n wye basis van opleiding te voorsien in die beginsels, tegnieke en praktiese vaardighede van diereproduksie en plaasbestuur met spesiale klem op die behoeftes van die kleinveeboerdery in die ekstensiewe skaapboerdery gebiede. Die studievelde van die onderrigprogramme sluit in: - die beginsels en praktyke van kleinveeproduksie, landboubestuur, omgewingsbestuur, gewasproduksie en landbou-ingenieurswese praktyke op die plaas, landbou organisasie, personeelbestuur en landbouvoorligting.
