Grootfontein Soccer Team (GST) well prepared for upcoming tournaments:
“Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far they can go.” ~ T.S Eliot… That is the attitude adopted by the Grootfontein Soccer Team (GST) of 2018. This enthusiastic team of agricultural students has already hit the ground running in the pursuit for victory.
Players resumed training on July 23 in preparation for two big tournaments in the next two months. During the CoSACSA(College Sports Arts and Culture SA), which will take place from August 9 to 12 in Port Elizabeth, GST will part take as an invitational team in this annual TVET College’s competition. There final tournament and highlight for the year, will be from September 28 to October 6, when GST will compete against the other Agricultural Colleges from all over South African during the annual NACSANO colleges sports week in Potchefstroom.

On Saturday July 28, the team played a friendly game against the NWGA Eastern Cape Squad at Grootfontein College of Agriculture soccer field. This soccer field has adopted the name “Slaghuis” since they haven’t tasted a loss in this year’s games played. It was a mouth-watering game of football as both teams displayed skills, tactical discipline and determination. However, Grootfontein Soccer Team proved to be far too strong for the opponents after an avalanche of goals as the game ended in a 12-2 victory for the victorious soccer team of Grootfontein.
On Sunday the 5th of August GST is scheduled to lock horns with the provincial squad of the East cape Midlands TVET Colleges (EMC) in Graaff-Reinet. According to their coach, Phutiane T Letsoalo, the team is still adamant about bringing the first ever NACSANO trophy to Grootfontein. The level of commitment and the high spirit in the team can attest to this. “GST is a team that prides itself in unity, hard work, good sportsmanship and excellence in the game of football. The team is therefore unequivocally certain that this is the year of victory especially and after falling short in NACSANO 2017 in Fort Cox College where they came forth from the eleven colleges that were competing in the tournament”, Phutiane concluded.
