Angora Day at Grootfontein

A farmers’ day aimed at providing the latest information on the Angora goat and Mohair industries will be held at Grootfontein Agricultural Development Institute, Middelburg E.C. on 30 October at 08:30.

The following topics will be presented:

• Factors that influence mohair income (Pierre van der Vyver – CMW),

• Precision Angora goat farming – the key to highly profitable Angora goat farming (Dr. Jasper Coetzee),

• Acquisition of mohair – from the viewpoint of the buyer (Gerrit Fourie – Stucken)

• Marketing of mohair – local and overseas (Anlé Marais and Deon Saayman – Mohair South Africa).

• The students responsible for the Grootfontein Student Angora Stud will do a presentation on the stud and also display goats from the stud.

Current producers of mohair, as well as those who are new to the industry, are invited to attend this event where all the latest information on Angora goats and mohair will be discussed. The mohair price is high and the product, as well as breeding animals, are in high demand. It is therefore important that producers are well informed.

Registration is R100 per person and includes lunch. For more information, please contact Mr. Hans Greeff at 0827880308 or 0498026700.
