The annual Grootfontein Small Stock Scientific Symposium was held on 8 November at Grootfontein Agricultural Development Institute, Middelburg EC. This event gave scientists the opportunity to share knowledge and to discuss research projects.



Some of the Grootfontein scientists that took part are from the left: Dr Hoggie Viljoen, Mr Vongani Shivambu, Mr Phillip Nengwenani and Ms Ayanda Baca. The topics of their presentations were: Dr Viljoen - Prediction of lambing date based on clinical examination prior to parturition in ewes, Mr Shivambu -The most economical energy level in lucerne hay-based finishing diets for Dohne Merino lambs, Mr Nengwenani - Evaluation of dry matter and forage quality for four pastures as influenced by three frequencies of flood irrigation and Ms Baca - Effect of frequency of vitamin and mineral supplementation on semen quality of Angora goat sires.
