Grootfontein Short Course - July 2003



Die rekenaarkursus vir beginners wat deur die Landboukollege Grootfontein aangebied is, is deur ‘n groep belangstellendes van Middelburg en omliggende dorpe bygewoon . Me Johanette van Heerden, aanbieder van die kursus, staan heel regs. Die kursus het gebruikers aan hardeware, sagteware en die spesifikasies van rekenaars bekendgestel. Kursusgangers het ook geleer om met Windows 2000, Corel Word Perfect, Internet en E-pos te werk. Die kursus is deel van die kortkursusse wat jaarliks gedurende die Julievakansie aangebied word.

 

 

 

 

 

Die kursus in kunsmatige inseminasie van kleinvee is een van die kortkursusse wat jaarliks gedurende die Julievakansie deur die Landboukollege Grootfontein aangebied word. Kursusgangers is van links: mnre Johan van der Walt (van Burgersdorp), Attie Westraad (van De Aar), Jaco du Plessis (van De Aar) en Ronald McNaughton (van Graaff-Reinet). Saam met hulle is Andries Ruiters (hanteerder) en dr Eddie Snyman (aanbieder van die kursus). Hulle is albei werksaam by die Provinsiale Veterinêre Laboratorium op Grootfontein.

 

 

 

 

 

The wool course, offered by Grootfontein College of Agriculture, provides people with the opportunity to be recommended for registration at the NWGA as wool classers. This course is one of the short courses offered annually during the July holidays. From the left are Messrs Roderick C Gumada ( from Ntabethemba near Queenstown), André Snyman (co-presenter of the course), JP van Aswegen (from Dewetsdorp), Danie Grobbelaar (presenter of the course), Ms Sally Kingwill ( from Graaff-Reinet) and Mr. Calvin Mokaila (co-presenter of the course). Subjects covered by the course include: shearing shed facilities, classing, packing, marking of containers, physical properties of wool, picking up, throwing and skirting of fleeces, judging, single typing and identification of fleece samples, cast fleeces and grouping. Messrs Grobbelaar, Snyman and Mokaila are lecturers at the Grootfontein College of Agriculture.

This course is one of the short courses offered annually by the College during the July holidays. Subjects covered by the course include: safety measures with regard to arc- and gas welding and different machines used for welding. The course attendants also practiced arc- and gas welding techniques.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Die kortkursus in weiveldbestuur wat deur dr Piérre du Toit (heel links, landbouwetenskaplike by die Grootfontein Landbou-ontwikkelingsinstituut) aangebied is, het teoretiese sowel as praktiese lesings ingesluit. Dr Du Toit het verskeie onderwerpe behandel wat onder meer die volgende ingesluit het: plantidentifikasie, omgewingsoorsig, kenmerke en groeiritmes van weidingsplante, beginsels van weiveldbeheer, kampstelsels, weidingsindekswaardes en beraming van weidingskapasiteit. Op die laaste dag van die twee dag kursus het die kursusgangers verskeie weidingsproewe besoek waar hulle hul nuutverworwe kennis kon toepas.

 

 

 

 

 

The meat processing course is a practical short course offered by Grootfontein Agricultural Development Institute and forms part of the short courses offered annually during the July holidays. The course lasts 5 days and included the following: introduction to the classification that is used and the roller marking of carcasses, as well as identifying carcass cuts. Practical training included using a bandsaw and how to make sausage, salt meat, biltong, dried sausage and smoked meat. The course was presented by Mr. Faan Viljoen (on the right, farm manager at Grootfontein).

 

 

 

 

 

 

‘n Rekenaarkursus vir gevorderde gebruikers is deur me Johanette van Heerden (regs agter) by die Landboukollege Grootfontein aangebied. Die kursus is deel van die kortkursusse wat jaarliks gedurende die Julievakansie aangebied word. Me Van Heerden is ‘n dosent aan die Kollege. A short course in the permanent marking of livestock was offered by Grootfontein College of Agriculture. This course was presented by Mr. Andries Pretorius (in the middle of the back row). He is the flock manager at Grootfontein. Seen here are the people who attended the course. In the front row are from the left Messrs Piet Moshoane, Stuurman Pearce and Fieland Pergoe, all working at flock management at Grootfontein. At the back are Messrs Stefaans Jacobs, Cain Namusi, Dawid Mafelika and Pauls Fanti. They all work at the Vaalharts Research Station near Jan Kempdorp. Lectures included the different methods of marking livestock, as well as the rules and regulations that must be followed. People attending the course also had the opportunity to practice their skills by marking livestock themselves.
